Autism: Yorkshire to get specialist unit

A residential unit allowing pupils to live at a specialist autism school throughout the year is to be built in Yorkshire.

Clayton Croft will house 16 pupils in the grounds of The Robert OgdenSchool, which is run by the National Autistic Society. The unit willcost 2m to build and will include autism-specific en suitebedrooms and leisure areas for children aged nine to 18.

Eileen Hopkins, the society's acting regional director, north andcentral England, said: "This purpose-built accommodation is an essentialresource that will enable the school to continue to provide the bestpossible care for its current pupils and help many more families livingwith autism."

A total of 127 pupils from all over England attend the school.
