There are around 200 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children inLiverpool.
A spokesman for the council said: "It will enhance the work we do." HomeOffice spokesman Lord Bassam of Brighton said similar discussions weretaking place with other local authorities that are major ports of entryfor asylum seekers.
But he added that it was not possible to say how many of theunaccompanied children in Liverpool were former child soldiers orvictims of child trafficking.
