Asylum Seekers: UK Youth to extend award to refugees

1 min read
UK Youth is launching a year long pilot to expand its Youth Achievement Awards to young refugees and asylum seekers.

Using funding of 47,000 from the Home Office's Refugee Integration Fund, the informal education youth network's pilot will involve 10 youth groups, each working with 20 young refugees on the awards programme.

Two workers from each of the 10 groups will receive training and Youth Achievement Awards materials will be translated into the 10 languages most used by young refugees.

Yvonne Richards, accredited learning manager at UK Youth, said: "The translation will be ground breaking and we hope it sets the tone and improves informal educational opportunities all round.

"One of our priorities for the award is to increase young people's access to it, because it accredits individual achievement. It also fits in with the Home Office's refugee integration plan."

The annual Youth Achievement Awards conference takes place from 20-21 September.
