Ask the Expert: Youth club insurance

1 min read Youth Work Youth clubs

Two of our regular youth club members have become parents. They are both in care and are very responsible and proud. However, when they come to activities they are not able to bring the baby due to the fact that we do not have insurance. How can I help?

While the club will almost certainly have public liability insurance, it may not have insurance that covers “working with babies”.

However, most problems can be overcome if you plan creatively.

Seek out a childminding or other childcare group in your area, which would enable them to join a supportive network. There are a number of really excellent youth-led young parents’ projects and you might find one in your region. There is also an opportunity to tap into community networks to help these young parents make sensible decisions. A number of resources might be helpful, including; www.changeforchildren.co.uk, www.womenshealthmatters.org.uk and www.idea.gov.uk.
