We run an after-school club for under-12s. Two parents frequently turn up to collect their children in nightclothes. Some of the kids think this is really funny and one of the girls is being bullied as a result. How should I address this?
In general, it is up to each individual to wear what they want unless there is anything obscene or unhealthy about it. However, nightwear is designed for sleep and this scenario would suggest that a person is not ready for anything else. If a child turned up to school in pyjamas, this would be seen as neglect.
Although we can never ever justify bullying, where children are victims, parents owe it to them to be rather more self-aware and supportive in the way they present themselves and be seen as a role model for their children.
