Ask the Expert: Nursery leadership

1 min read Management

What must I do to prepare for becoming a leader in my nursery setting?

Good leaders have a vision and set an ambition for the service, which they then help make happen. That does not mean managing the operational details but understanding all the ingredients that make it happen and making sure there are processes and practices in place and that the staff have the right competencies.

Ask yourself a few questions. Are you passionate about what you do? Can you inspire and excite your colleagues with your enthusiasm? Do you understand children and parents’ wants and needs? Have you got a sound grasp of child development and how children learn?

The best leaders are those who continually develop themselves so clearly you are on the right path.
