Ask the Expert: How to deal with young crushes

One of the boys at my project is always coming in on my shift, writing me notes and following me around, as well as questioning my colleagues non-stop about me. Unfortunately, my colleagues think this is all very amusing.

Young people can be very intense about these things, even create scenarios in their minds which are complete fantasy. This will make the inevitable rejection potentially devastating to the young man.

You should be able to expect your colleagues to support you in this, discouraging this kind of behaviour and ensuring you are not left alone with this young person. What’s more, everything possible should be done for the young man’s own sake.
