Lyric West, which will be launched by the Lyric Hammersmith this week, comprises two strands. The first, Lyric West: Exclusive, is aimed at young people with complex needs, including those not in education, employment or training, young offenders and young asylum seekers. The second, Lyric West: Inclusive, is aimed at all 11- to 19-year-olds in Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, Brent, Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Harrow.
The target of 16,000 will rise to 24,000 by 2010. Young people will be able to gain nationally accredited qualifications in literacy, numeracy and the arts.
James Blackman, co-director of creative learning at the Lyric Hammersmith, said: "The Lyric has a long history of working with young people at risk of social exclusion but we found a lot of the work was project-focused and there was a need for a year-round programme."
