ARTS AND CULTURE: Own label

5 mins read
North Yorkshire put arts and culture at the centre of its youth strategy, in response to the Transforming Youth Work agenda. As Henrietta Bond discovers, this has resulted in young people forming their own record label.

The record label was a natural progression in the life of North Yorkshire's Live and Loud music project. The seven bands and solo artists selected for the 6K Vision label were chosen not only for their talent, but also their involvement and commitment. Young people are heavily involved in all aspects of running the project, and staff are looking at ways of accrediting their involvement. They are experimenting with a points system. Young people receive points for things such as staging gigs, making posters or tickets for events. The band or artist with the highest number of points will be the first one to have an extended demo CD made.
