At a time when ethnic and religious communities fear tensions may escalate to the point of breaking Britain's diverse social fabric, these young people have found a way of putting aside their differences to get on with the business of making music.
Eighteen-year-old Chabirool Ayab has been involved in Dhamak for the past three years. Dhamak is a project based in East Lancashire where young people get together to make eclectic sounds combining South Asian and Western dance music styles, with a mix of Punjabi folk songs, hip-hop and drum'n'bass.
Chabirool, the band's vocalist and rapper, is enthusiastic about this rich musical background, which gives the group a colourful and diverse identity by combining "jazz instruments, traditional music and all kinds of stuff into one massive fusion".
