Armed Forces: Army looks at using Connexions model

1 min read
The British Army is considering setting up a service similar to Connexions for young people living on bases in Northern Ireland and overseas.

The Connexions-style service, branded ConneX-MOD, will provide information and advice to young people from Army families. It is likely to be developed in Northern Ireland first.

Although the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been meeting the Department for Education and Skills, the service is likely to be run by the Army's welfare service and will operate separately to the Connexions service.

Frank Cousins, chief youth and community officer of the British Forces Youth Service, said: "ConneX-MOD is in its early stages in Northern Ireland.

The MoD has set up a high-level committee, which is due to meet in November, to formalise the service. There won't be a Connexions service in the MoD, but we may adopt a similar approach. We won't necessarily have personal advisers, but may have people doing similar work alongside their normal job."
