Analysis: Armed Forces - Forces reach out to young people

With global military operations to direct and budget cuts to administer, you would expect the creation of a youth strategy for the three armed forces to be a low priority for the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

But this is exactly what the MoD is in the process of creating. Brigadier Neil Baverstock, director of Reserve Forces and Cadets at the ministry, is leading the work, and at a recent Royal Air Force conference on youth activities he outlined the aims of the strategy.

"We do have a plan on youth policies for the armed forces but below that there has been virtually nothing on delivery, so we are trying to add in a strategy for delivering the policy," he explained.
