Anti-gay bullies in Scotland targeted

Education
Advice to help teachers stamp out anti-gay bullying is to be issued to schools in Scotland.

The toolkit, created by the charity LGBT Youth Scotland, will be previewed at the Scottish Learning Festival today (24 September), before its release in Anti-Bullying Week, which starts on 17 November.

The toolkit, which was piloted earlier this year, defines homophobic bullying and suggests how teachers can challenge such behaviour. It includes lesson plans about topics such as discrimination and gay pride events around the world, and was devised with the help of Scottish teachers.

Last year an LGBT Youth Scotland survey found seven out of 10 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people felt schools were an unsafe environment.
