Analysis: Scotland - The battle to modernise services

Youth work's days of playing Cinderella are numbered. Scotland's forthcoming Youth Work Strategy will, according to deputy education minister Euan Robson, put the sector on the map.

At YouthLink Scotland's recent annual conference, Robson explained how the strategy would even out variations in the quality and quantity of services delivered by local authorities and promised more investment in youth worker training (YPN, 10-16 November, p3).

But the draft of this strategy is unlikely to see daylight before the middle of next year and until it does surface the Scottish Executive has sizeable obstacles to overcome if it is to enhance the status of youth work.
