Scotland: New youth strategy will unify provision

1 min read

Euan Robson, Scotland's deputy minister for education and young people, said improving opportunities for young people's development, providing information and aiding youth involvement in decision-making were the principles being followed by the Scottish Executive in the strategy.

It will address young people's complaints that they have nowhere to spend free time, Robson told YouthLink Scotland's annual conference.

It will also introduce longer-term funding.

"There are examples of excellent youth work at local levels throughout Scotland, but coverage is by no means comprehensive," said Robson.

The strategy will outline plans to develop the career structure for youth work and increase investment in training. Robson will look into creating a professional body for youth workers in Scotland. A draft document will be compiled for consultation.
