Giving up smoking is one of the most common of New Year resolutions, but the actual job of staying off the cigarettes is not easy, especially for young people.
Trying to get young people interested in giving up is difficult, but the importance of getting them to kick the habit is not in question.
Young and reluctant
A recent health report by the London Health Observatory states that the proportion of deaths from smoking were found to be higher in areas of high deprivation. Smoking in Tower Hamlets, for example, was found to be a cause of 23 per cent of deaths in the east London borough. Dominick Nguyen, public health adviser at Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust, says: "Young people and pregnant women are the hardest to reach groups in terms of working on smoking prevention and giving up."
