1. Remember that the smoking ban is not prompted by a nanny state worried about smokers' health. It is about the rights of those who choose not to smoke and want to breathe air that is as fresh as possible. Exposure to secondary smoke affects people's health.
2. It will be illegal to smoke indoors in a public space in Wales and Northern Ireland from April and from July in England. Scotland already has a ban. In some ways this makes it easier for youth projects. The knotty question of whether to offer smoking areas is no longer an issue. Yet excluding young people who need or want a smoke risks excluding those who most need youth work intervention.
