The youth sector has been overloaded with government strategy documents recently, but in one area all four nations of the UK have been crying out for more guidance - on play.
The Welsh Assembly Government was first past the post last month, with the publication of its Play Policy Implementation Plan. In England the Government has said it will produce a "vision" report this summer, and in Northern Ireland work is under way on two policy documents - one for children, and one for young people.
Open to ideas
Earlier this month the Scottish Executive said it is keeping an open mind on a play strategy, after 81 Members of Scottish Parliament supported calls from Play Scotland and Barnardo's Scotland for guidance (YPN, 22-28 March, p6).
