ANALYSIS: Charities - A little help from our friends

3 mins read

The Children's Society is the latest charity for young people to look at resource sharing to cut costs. In December, the charity announced job cuts from March 2004 because of streamlining (YPN, 17-23 December, p5). Chief executive Bob Reitemeier says increasing financial pressure in the sector means "efficiencies of scale" must be examined. "Resource sharing is something we are obligated to look at," he adds.

The template for resource sharing was set in March 2003 when the Children's Centre Project, a consortium of seven charities for children and young people, was set up. Early in the New Year, it will commission research into how the charities can work closer together. They are not only looking into sharing the same building, but also helplines, information services and back-office functions such as administration, IT and human resources.
