It was my childhood dream to join the Royal Navy. However, I always noticed the real lack of female officers. At the moment only around 10 per cent of Navy officers are women. Yet these are interesting and challenging jobs that women are capable of doing.
During the work experience, we got a chance to try out technical jobs, we went aboard military aircraft and even got to move a helicopter. We went all around Portsmouth and had great food and entertainment too. It was organised by the Wise campaign (Women into Science, Engineering and Construction) and my local youth centre.
I now know that I want to be an air engine technician. I would put everything into it and I've already sent my application to start training. Hopefully more women will take on traditionally male jobs like being in the Royal Navy.
