Advice and guidance: Careers survey tells of service concerns

The majority of respondents to the Government's review into information, advice and guidance have called for a single careers service for young people and adults.

The review, led by the Department for Education and Skills, was announced in last year's skills white paper. It will inform a business plan for a reformed information, advice and guidance infrastructure, which the Government will put together by the end of this year.

Respondents to the review expressed concern about the different branding of services such as Connexions for 13- to 19-year-olds and nextstep and learndirect for the over-19s.

Barry Hitchen, chief executive of Connexions York and North Yorkshire, said he believed in an all-age strategy but not a single service.

"There should be a focus on the links between services at the transition stage," he said.
