9m parents' directory hit by last-minute unrest

1 min read Early Years
A row has broken out between family information services (FIS) and the government over a 9m service for parents, which is due to launch on 7 September.

The Parent Know How Directory is designed to transform the provision of support and information to parents. It includes details on childcare and schools.

But according to the National Association of Family Information Services (Nafis), FIS managers are upset at a lack of support during a period of technical changes. Councils have been ordered to update their FIS software, improve security and gather information from service providers in preparation for the directory.

Nafis claims that last week, less than a month before launch, the government issued new terms and conditions for the directory, requiring consent from all providers to share information with third parties.
