Ware, a former member of pop groups The Human League and Heaven 17, has worked with Tina Turner and Chaka Khan. He will use recordings captured by young people, as well as iconic London sounds in the piece.
Participants from each group will take part in workshops and be given hand-held recorders to capture the sound they believe best represents London. The recordings will then be woven into the final composition.
The finished work, called SoundLife London, will be broadcast from hidden speakers in Leicester Square Gardens between 4 and 14 June.
Ware said: "This is a world first piece of sound art where hundreds of people can also become the artists and share their unique view of London."
