Ask the Experts: Explore politics with young people

Our panel offers advice on political education, securing permanent staff, nursery literacy and coping with an increased workload.

Question: With all the media coverage of the European and local elections, youth group members have been asking questions I don't feel able to answer. I thought about asking our local councillors along to a session to talk about what they do but am concerned about political bias. Any tips?

Tracie Trimmer-Platman: Most local authorities have youth councils made up of young people who would be able to visit your group. The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (www.jrf.org.uk) has done some interesting work around young people and politics, as has the British Youth Council. The UK Youth Parliament is another great organisation that might be able to provide support, resources and guest speakers.
