Youth sessions lead to a drop in antisocial behaviour in Bolton

An area blighted by vandalism has seen a drop in antisocial behaviour following targeted intervention by Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

Great Lever, in Bolton, has experienced antisocial behaviour, which culminated in the vandalism of a minibus used by the youth organisation.

Problems in the region have dropped following months of youth sessions in the area, the establishment of a centre for young people and work with the police, council and organisations, including the Bolton Council of Mosques, to ease relations between young people.

Up to 60 young people attend Saturday evening sessions at the Heywood Park centre in Great Lever, and Bolton Lads and Girls Club outreach staff organise football tournaments and pool competitions.

Club outreach coordinator John Partington said: "The problems were caused by a very small minority who spoil things for the majority.
