The 2012 pilot scheme aims to offer 30,000 places for young people, around three times the number of places being offered during the first wave of pilots taking place this summer.
The seven- to eight-week National Citizen Service summer schemes are aimed at 16-year-olds to help them become more community focused and improve their skills and confidence.
Civil society minister Nick Hurd said: "The scale of our ambition has not been seen before and we need organisations that can rise to this challenge and help make National Citizen Service the rewarding experience that our young people deserve."
Among those to secure contracts to run pilots during this summer were Bolton Lads and Girls Club, which will provide 270 places in Bolton, and Catch 22, the crime reduction group, which will provide 1,515 places nationally.
