Youth magazine gets new lease of life

1 min read Youth Work
The short-term future of award-winning youth magazine Zeal looks to have been resolved after Thurrock Council secured additional funding for the scheme.

The autumn and winter issue was cancelled after the council experienced staff shortages and funding problems with the journalism programme.

But a council spokesperson confirmed that an undisclosed amount of money has been secured from a new funding stream for a further two issues and that the youth service would be seeking qualified staff to run the scheme in the New Year.

The magazine, which is produced in partnership with Connexions Essex and Southend, won the Best Youth Magazine category at Young People Now’s Positive Images Awards in 2006.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are delighted that we have been successful in obtaining funding to continue with this valuable project. The youth service is looking forward to continue support for this project in the future.”
