The Crib, a youth club situated in the borough's De Beauvoir Estate, was the scene of an incident earlier this month that involved a man wearing a motorcycle helmet firing a gun at the youth.
Though the boy survived the shooting and has been discharged from hospital, Hackney Council has decided to close the club for a period of two weeks to calm tensions in the area and ensure the safety of local people and youth club staff.
A Hackney Council spokeswoman said: "The club at De Beauvoir is closed for a couple of weeks currently to help calm the atmosphere and ensure that it is secure. In the interim period, senior staff from the police, Hackney Council and Hackney Homes are determining the best way forward to ensure that young people, neighbours and Crib staff remain protected.
