Welsh politicians call on social workers to spend time with children of foster carers

1 min read Social Care
A cross party group of politicians is calling on the Welsh Assembly Government to require trainee social workers to spend time with the sons and daughters of foster carers.

The proposal is part of a report by the National Assembly for Wales' Children and Young People Committee, which makes recommendations on how to improve placements for children in foster care.

The committee also wants the Welsh government to set up an advice line for foster carers and ban local authorities from choosing placements for looked-after children based primarily on cost.

To make sure that foster carers are counted as professionals in the childcare workforce, the report suggests the government should work with the Care Council for Wales so that foster carers come under its remit as a sector skills council.
