The commissioner’s office is currently reviewing play opportunities for disabled children in Wales, but today revealed the initial findings were “far from encouraging”.
“There is some good provision out there, but we were surprised at the invisibility of disabled children and young people when it came to how local partnerships plan to develop their play provision,” said deputy children’s commissioner Maria Battle.
“Disabled children have exactly the same human rights as all other children – in fact adults providing services have an added responsibility to make sure they give disabled children the same opportunities.”
The commissioner’s study is due to be published in spring 2008.
