Watchdog concerned by child alcohol use

Health
Almost half (48 per cent) of children aged between 10 and 15 have drunk alcohol and one in five (19 per cent) have been drunk at least once in the past four weeks, according to a survey published by Ofsted.

The survey of more than 111,000 children in England also found that the level of smoking and drugs misuse is significant amongst some young people with one in five of all children surveyed (21 per cent) having smoked a cigarette.

Half (51 per cent) of children were worried about exams and a third (30 per cent) said they had been bullied at least a couple of times in the last four weeks.

Chief inspector Christine Gilbert said more needed to be done to address children and young people’s worries and concerns about how safe they feel, and about exams and tests.
