Young people list weight loss as main health concern

Health
Losing weight is the number one worry among 12- to 15-year-olds, especially those living in low-income families, according to the results of the latest NHS Teen LifeCheck survey.

Among the poorer teenagers that took part in the survey 43 per cent said losing weight was their major concern, compared with 30 per cent among those from high-income families.

Teenagers from low-income families were also far more likely to be worried about bullying, drugs and smoking, the survey found.

While 41 per cent of teenagers from low-income families said bullying was a concern, this figure was just 21 per cent among teenagers from more affluent families.

Drugs were a concern for 21 per cent of teenagers from low-income families, compared with 13 per cent of those from high-income families.
