Voluntary sector called on to share best practice

A coalition of charities is calling on the voluntary sector to demonstrate its achievements as pressure mounts to improve assessment of programmes and outcomes for children and families.

Under a Department for Education-funded initiative, Action for Children, Action for Prisoners' Families, the Family and Parenting Institute and Family Action will be encouraging voluntary and community groups to share expertise.

The Growing our Strengths programme will invite organisations and individuals to complete questionnaires and share their experience about what best practice examples exist for children and families.

More in-depth information will be gathered through workshops which will take place across England. The programme will also supply organisations and individuals with evaluation tools.

Carina Boyle, strategy development manager at Action for Children, said: "This is a critical time for the children and families we all work with, as well as the third sector itself.
