
In a lively debate in the House of Commons chamber today (4 November), more than 325 MYPs debated five topics culminating in a vote to decide their national priority campaign for the year.
Following a poll of more than 65,000 young people earlier this year, the five topics were shortlisted for debate at the annual meeting. As well as transport, young people spoke with enthusiasm on tuition fees and the alternative proposal of a graduate tax.
A zero-tolerance policy towards bullying in schools also sparked some heated discussion. David Crone, an MYP from the north east of England, said homophobic and racist bullying as well as verbal and physical attacks on young people with disabilities cannot be solved by discipline alone.
