The vote took place at the 11th sitting of the UK Youth Parliament to be held in the House of Commons, and was chaired by speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP and deputy speaker Dame Rosie Winterton.

The debates focused on various health-related issues after the youth parliament’s annual Make Your Mark survey – which consulted more than 400,00 young people – found health and wellbeing to be highest priority issue for young people.

Following discussions on issues such as mental health, discrimination, climate change, and education, members of youth parliament (MYPs) voted for the cost of living and health to be their new campaign focus for 2022-23 after the topics received 102 of the 236 votes cast.
