Hundreds of young people gathered in Kent this weekend at the national UK Youth Parliament summit.

Coming to a close today (Monday), the four-day summit gave members of the Youth Parliament (MYPs) an opportunity to launch three national campaigns on public transport, university tuition fees and political education.

As well as tackling issues including youth participation, mental health, crime and education, MYPs heard from speakers including Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow and Wes Streeting, president of the National Union of Students.

Regular updates regarding the conference were posted on social networking website Twitter.

One summit attendee wrote: "MYPs are currently grilling government minister Paul Clark about the cost of bus travel for young people."

The summit was held at the University of Kent, in Canterbury and aimed to address the issues that matter most to young people.

Stephanie Wills, the 17-year-old MYP for Lancashire, said: "This event is important because it is bringing together the country's young representatives. It is like having a nation's worth of opinions in one place."
