Third of hospitals bad at child protection

1 min read Health Social Care
Close to a third of NHS hospitals have been rated as low performing or worse when it comes to child protection, a Healthcare Commission report has found.

The findings come as part of a review of progress made at acute trusts since a previous report in 2005/06.

It reveals hospitals are making mixed progress on meeting the needs of children.

Big improvements have been made in training anaesthetists with 71 per cent now meeting guidelines - an increase of 48 per cent.

However one in five trusts fail to meet guidelines in terms of training nurses and 42 per cent failed to update consultant surgeons every three years.

Across all categories nine per cent of trusts deteriorated, 20 per cent were rated as consistently low performing, 39 per cent had improved and 32 per cent were classed consistently highly performing.
