Monitor, the independent regulator of NHS foundation trusts, has used its powers of intervention to order Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to improve a number of its services. These include what the Care Quality Commission (CQC) described as "inadequate arrangements to treat children, with few specialist paediatric staff".
Monitor said the trust was in "significant breach of the terms of its authorisation as a result of concerns around compliance with healthcare standards, board effectiveness and governance".
