Sheffield set to offer tailored early years support

1 min read Early Years
Councillors in Sheffield are expected to endorse plans aimed at helping families with children aged from birth to five to access tailored services closer to where they live.

Following a consultation, which gathered more than 600 responses from parents, councillors are set to approve the final report on Wednesday (21 March). The report sets out a £1.15m cut to the early years budget, but stresses that the changes will not lead to a reduction in service provision.

The proposals include identifying a named midwife, health visitor and multi-agency support team for each children’s centre area, providing a "one-stop" information service, and redesigning the delivery of Sure Start services into geographical area clusters informed by the needs of parents.

Councillors will also be asked to approve plans to help childcare organisations and childminders to work together more innovatively to ensure flexible, affordable and sufficient childcare to meet local needs and more provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
