Sector skills council for lifelong learning axed

1 min read Youth Work
Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) will not be relicensed as a sector skills council the government has announced.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills this week announced LLUK will not be re-licensed following a review undertaken by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES). It will remain in place until the end of March 2011.

LLUK is one of the sector skills councils for youth work along with the Children’s Workforce Development, which is losing its status as a non-departmental public body by 2012.

Charlie Mayfield, chair of UKCES,  said: "The UK Commission will work with LLUK to help ensure a seamless transition of the core elements of its work to other partners next spring. I would like to thank the staff and management at LLUK for the professionalism they have shown throughout this difficult time."
