Following calls for support on sexual health issues from leaders the association has launched its first guidance document on the subject. Promoting Good Sexual Health in Scouting - Advice for Adults in Scouting covers issues such as contraception, pregnancy testing and what to do if leaders suspect sexual exploitation or coercion.
It also offers guidance on activities including discussions around sex and religion and debates on sexual health issues. Contact details for relevant groups such as Childline and Brook Advisory Centres are included.
The guidance is aimed to support work with 14 to 18 year olds and is not compulsory.
"This is to equip leaders to support young people with sexual health advice. Increasingly young people are coming to us for advice about emotional issues that are not covered in school lessons," said a Scout Association spokesman.
