Quality of children’s playgrounds declining, London councils say

More than two-thirds of the 25 London local authorities that responded to a survey by charity London Play said that revenue for play facility management and maintenance is likely to either decrease or stay static over the next three years, despite a significant majority saying that children’s play is a council priority.

“Play is a high priority, but we have limited resources to manage and maintain the current facilities,” one council respondent said.

More than a quarter of the capital's local authorities are planning playground closures in the next three years, London Play said, adding that most adventure playgrounds in the capital are run by independent charities and are dependent on local authority grants or contracts.
