Play skills council has its licence renewed

The sector skills council for playwork, SkillsActive, has had its licence renewed as part of the government's current relicensing process of all sector skills councils.

The government published a new workforce strategy in December last year that suggested some sector skills councils would lose responsibilities as the remit of the Children's Workforce Development Council expands.

But the government has today confirmed that SkillsActive will keep its license and retain all previous responsibilities.

Paul Bonel, SkillsActive's director of playwork, told CYP Now: "It confirms the government's support for us for the next five years and helps clarify the position in respect to our footprint. This is confirmation that playwork stays within SkillsActive's remit."

As a result of the relicensing process, SkillsActive was particularly praised for its creation of a qualification and training structure for playwork.
