Philip Lawrence Awards nominations open

Youth Work
Nominations for this year's Philip Lawrence Awards opened today with a roundtable discussion at the Home Office.

Previous winners of the award met with home secretary Jacqui Smith, at the Home Office today (Tuesday).

The Philip Lawrence Awards are an annual event and promote and reward young people's achievements in citizenship.

Smith said she hoped the awards would help to show the positive work of young people.

"The vast majority of young people are working hard to make a contribution to their community and are looking after each other," she said. "Too often, we don't recognise it and this is an opportunity to step back and do so."
