Citizenship: Philip Lawrence awards announced

Ten young people's groups have been named winners in the 2005 Philip Lawrence Awards.

The recipients of the awards, which celebrate "outstanding achievementsin good citizenship" by young people aged 11 to 20, are: City Angels,The Inclusion Zone, Youth2Youth, Sixty Plus Intergenerational Project,Springhill Community Radio Project, Mitalee Summer School, Dreamers, TheOpal Project, Rathbone Outreach Project, and Teen Network Torbay.

The Inclusion Zone is a purpose-built room for adolescent children atthe Demelza House Children's Hospice in Sittingbourne, Kent. The roomwas designed by four young people living in the hospice and includes DVDstations, a "chill-out zone" and a widescreen plasma TV.

Nicole Dryburgh, one of the designers, said: "The room has been adaptedfor different disabilities. It means a place where I can go to be ateenager."
