The continued funding will assist the provision of services, facilities and opportunities to meet young people’s needs, with outdoor learning specified as an important theme from responses to the government’s dormant assets consultation last year.

The Access Unlimited coalition – a group of non-profit school, residential and educational providers including The Outward Bound Trust, Scouts, Girlguiding, Field Studies Council and the National Parks – welcomed the announcement, after members had lobbied the government to continue the funding.

In response to last year’s consultation, the coalition specifically requested funding for bursaries to make outdoor learning cheaper or free for young people from deprived areas, capital investment in outdoor centres, and the development of equipment hubs to enable more new groups to give young people access to outdoors. It also requested funding for the creation of a sustainable workforce and volunteer pipeline, and to support schools and youth programmes in providing better access to outdoor education.
