The 20 schools have all received the inspectorate's top "outstanding" rating at least twice, despite operating in areas of high social deprivation.
Ofsted has detailed the work of the schools in a report - Twenty outstanding primary schools, excelling against the odds - which is aimed at inspiring other schools.
Ofsted chief inspector Christine Gilbert said: "Through their passion and professionalism, these schools provide great service to children and young people. They show other schools how they can reduce the achievement gap between pupils from different backgrounds."
