My Week - Eco-friendliness is alive in Rotherham

Tuesday: Coffee with Kevin Brennan, the ex-children's minister who's now minister for the third sector. Although struggling with a nasty cold, he brings a welcome informality to our discussion. But, given everything else that is going on in the world at the moment, I think he's going to struggle to maintain the prominence the voluntary sector has enjoyed within government over the past few years.

Wednesday: So far, Changemakers is managing to beat the credit crunch reasonably well, with a healthy proportion of our income coming from the public sector - about the safest place to be just at the moment. In fact, we're actually about to grow again, which means we're pounding the streets of the City looking for a swanky new office. Where property is concerned, this is the buyers' market to end all buyers' markets, and seeing London's much loved estate agents fighting each other for our business is more than a little amusing.

Thursday: The initial amazement and excitement generated by the birth of octuplets in California has given way to a rather uneasy feeling as it becomes clear that the mother already has six children and seems to have undergone fertility treatment against the recommendations of mainstream medical practitioners. Indeed, her own parents have described her as being "addicted to children" and "mentally ill". There is no doubt that the commercialisation of childhood has a lot to answer for.
