According to the research by the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition, Mind and YoungMinds, just 43% of young people said politicians in general cared about the issue of youth mental health.

The research also found that 59% of adults said politicians have not done enough to tackle the issue over the last decade, with just 23% of voters confident that parties will prioritise mental health.

The charities say the findings “should serve as a wake-up call for politicians”.

Half of the young people surveyed felt that the main political parties lack understanding of the pressures they face, with 41% also believing that politicians don’t appreciate the scale of the issue.
