
In its response to the Family Justice Review, the government said its working group of ministers is exploring giving shared parenting a legal footing and will publish its recommendation for consultation later in the year.
The final report of the Family Justice Review – led by David Norgrove – concluded that child welfare should be the court’s paramount consideration and that this could be compromised by parental rights to equal time with a child.
However, ministers said that where it is safe and in a child’s best interests, children should have an ongoing relationship with both parents and will be examining how to incorporate this in law.
